Raleigh-Durham International Airport Transforms Into A Hotspot For International Flight Deals

Emerging as an unsuspecting contender for travelers on the lookout for affordable international airfare, Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) is shaking up the rankings. It joins Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), challenging the long-standing prominence of major coastal hubs in the U.S.

According to flight-deal data from travel service company Going, Raleigh-Durham, alongside Austin-Bergstrom, has broken into the top ten U.S. airports for international flight deals in 2026. The unexpected development means that travelers don’t have to be near the usual international powerhouses like Boston and New York to find competitive fares abroad.

Raleigh-Durham International Airport Shakes Up International Flight Deals List

Raleigh-Durham’s appearance in the top ten list for international flight deals suggests a shift in the airfare market in the U.S. It could be proof that travelers do not necessarily have to rely on traditional coastal mega-hubs to discover affordable opportunities to fly internationally.

Compelling fares for trips abroad are usually dominated by major airports in the U.S., including Boston Logan, dethroning JFK, as the top hub for international flight deals, but this year’s data by Going suggests that there’s a bit of a shake-up for these flight deals. Two newcomers, Raleigh-Durham and Austin-Bergstrom, made an appearance in the top ten list.

Going’s Top Airports For International Flights

Raleigh-Durham ranks sixth on the top ten list for flight deals internationally, with an average Going deal of $448 round-trip, and having 300 deals sent.

Moreover, Raleigh-Durham also appeared in the top ten U.S. airports for domestic flight deals, placing seventh in the rankings. As a medium-sized airport, Raleigh-Durham’s rankings in both international and domestic deals are a challenge to the already-dominating major hubs in the U.S.

How The Top Ten U.S. Airports Made It To The List Of International Flight Deals

The data from Going reflects more than just an airport’s size or global reach; it also suggests that these hubs have strong opportunities to find discounted airfare abroad throughout the year.

Major U.S. hubs, however, continue to stand out, including JFK, which emerges as the top hub for points and miles deals, Boston Logan, Newark, and Chicago O’Hare, but Raleigh-Durham’s appearance in the top ten list suggests that even the smaller gateways can be as competitive.

According to Going, this year’s crowning of winners was changed: from ranking them by the quantity of deals sent out from that airport to how those deals were exceptionally cheap or had unusually large discounts.

“In 2026, we also changed how we crowned the winners. In the past, an airport’s ranking came down to one thing: how many deals we sent from it. That’s a fine way to measure top airports, but it misses airports where the deals that do show up are exceptionally cheap or unusually deep discounts, even if there aren’t as many of them,” reads Going’s statement.

This year, Going built a weighted system that factors in the following:

• deal volume
• average Going deal price, and
• savings off the average normal price

Under the old rules, Going said that some of the airports in the top ten list wouldn’t have shown up, but “because the new math caught what deal counts alone were missing,” these hubs emerged, particularly Raleigh-Durham and Austin-Bergstrom.

Raleigh-Durham also did not disappoint the top ten list for domestic flight deals, as the data from Going reveals the hub ranks seventh, surpassing Tampa International Airport (TPA), which held the top spot last year, but now ranks eighth.

The data also shows that Denver (DEN), this year, tops the list for domestic flights in the U.S., “thanks to good old-fashioned fare wars that kept prices low.”

Raleigh-Durham International Airport Gains Recognition Beyond Traditional Mega-Hubs

Raleigh-Durham might be a newcomer to Going’s top ten list for both domestic and international flight deals, but it also means it is gaining recognition as a compelling option for travelers in search of international airfare deals beyond traditional mega powerhouses in the United States.

Serving North Carolina’s Raleigh, Durham, and the surrounding Research Triangle region, Raleigh-Durham offers international flights to 11 countries, with 90 nonstop destinations, and 18 airlines, including the Big Four: American, Southwest, Delta, and United Airlines.

Raleigh-Durham’s inclusion in Going’s top ten list of international flight deals, as well as in domestic, places the airport on the better side of things when it comes to competitive and attractive fares abroad, alongside other known mega hubs that many travelers traditionally put on their list for compelling offers.

Raleigh-Durham International Airport proves that snagging good international airfares doesn’t necessarily mean having to travel to a major coastal hub first. It is now becoming an increasingly attractive option for travelers on the lookout for competitive international flight deals.
